Integration of Amazon SQS and SharePoint

Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS. is a highly scalable, fully managed message queuing service that makes it simple and cost-effective to decouple and scale applications that send messages between each other. In terms of scalability, Amazon SQS can handle hundreds of thousands of messages per second and millions of messages per day. In terms of availability, you get 99.99 percent high availability with Amazon SQS. If a message is not processed by the consumer within 30 seconds, it will be automatically routed to another consumer. You do not have to worry about designing, scaling, and operating a highly available messaging infrastructure with Amazon SQS costs are based on your usage of the service and you only pay for what you use.

Integrating Amazon SQS with SharePoint enables you to extend your application architecture to include an asynchronous event-driven model to handle high vpumes of messages. Here is how it works. A SharePoint application sends messages to an Amazon SQS queue. A listener in the application consumes these messages from the queue at a specified rate until the queue is empty. The amount of time that the listener waits before picking up a message from the queue is called the ppl interval. This interval can range from as little as one minute to as long as several hours or even days depending on your application requirements. The fplowing diagram shows how Amazon SQS is integrated with SharePoint. It illustrates some of the benefits of this integration including:

Full independence from any specific platform – The application does not need to know where its listeners reside. Messages can be consumed from anywhere where there is access to the Internet using web services over HTTP/HTTPS or SOAP over HTTP/HTTPS.

Easy scalability – By deploying listeners in many availability zones, you can scale horizontally to handle high throughputs without worrying about performance bottlenecks.

High availability – When a message is not processed by a listener within 30 seconds, it is automatically rerouted to another consumer in the same or another Availability Zone.

Cost savings – Amazon SQS charges only for the resources consumed by your application.
