Integration of Amazon SQS and Salesforce

Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. is a fast, flexible, fully managed message queuing service. Amazon SQS moves your data between distributed application components and helps you decouple these components. You can use Amazon SQS to move messages between application components such as web servers, database servers, and mobile devices. You can also use Amazon SQS to move messages between on-premises applications and AWS applications.

    What is Amazon SQS?

Amazon SQS is a fully managed message queuing service that lets you decouple components of an application by using queues to communicate in a distributed system. In addition, it provides a simple programming interface, so that you can easily implement reliable and scalable distributed systems.Amazon SQS makes it easy to build distributed systems that deliver highly available applications. You can create a decoupled architecture where components are loosely coupled and can scale independently of one another.Message queuing is the process of storing messages in a queue for another process to retrieve and act on. The benefit of message queuing is that it allows applications to communicate with each other without requiring them to be running at the same time. When components need to communicate with each other, they simply push information into a queue for the other component to retrieve later. The following diagram shows the different components involved in message queuing:The communication between these components happens through a series of steps:When a producer needs to communicate with a consumer, it puts the message into a queue. When the consumer gets a message from the queue, it takes the action specified in the message. The following diagram shows an example of how this works:When you use Amazon SQS, you create queues that applications use to send messages to one another. Each application can decide when and how it will receive messages from other applications without being dependent on their availability or on any network connectivity. Applications don't have to worry about what happens if they lose connection or need to recover from failure. Amazon SQS handles all that for you.Because Amazon SQS manages the queue's lifecycle and guarantees at-least-once delivery, it is very cost efficient for large volumes of infrequent messages, such as notifications or billing events.Amazon SQS supports two messaging models:Push-based model . In this model, producers put messages into a queue and consumers get them out of the queue. This model requires that the application components be running and connected all the time so they can quickly get messages off the queue when they are needed.Batch-based model . In this model, producers create batches of messages and then tell Amazon SQS to deliver those batches at some point in the future. This model doesn't require that your application components be running when your messages are delivered. It also doesn't require that they be connected when messages are delivered.

    What is Salesforce?

Salesforce is the enterprise cloud computing company with more than 100,000 customers in over 195 countries around the world, including more than 80% of the Fortune 500 companies. Salesforce offers sales, service, marketing, community, commerce, analytics, application management and many other things. Salesforce offers its platform on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS), which has allowed Salesforce to focus on its core business while leveraging AWS's global footprint and scale. Salesforce is doing great work and I am glad to announce that this summer we're bringing two new integrations with Amazon Web Services (AWS. to market:Salesforce will integrate with Amazon Web Services' Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. to connect with AWS's Simple Notification Service (SNS. , which is used for sending push notifications; this integration will allow developers to build more intelligent apps and increase customer engagement through notifications across mobile devices and desktop computers;Salesforce will integrate with AWS AppSync , which brings real-time functionality into Salesforce; this integration will allow developers to build real-time apps within Salesforce and help them make better business decisions; You can read more about these announcements here .As part of this announcement I did a live demo showing how developers could create Amazon SQS based notification feeds using Apex triggers and Batch Apex for processing. We also showed how they could create mobile notifications using the new iOS SDK which leverages Amazon SQS as well.I thought I would share my outline with you as I think it provides a good framework for creating an article about this topic:
