Amazon SQS

Amazon Simple Queue Service is a highly available, highly scalable, hosted queue for storing messages asynchronously. Using Amazon SQS, developers can move data between distributed application components or microservices without losing messages or requiring each component or service to be always available. Developers can also use Amazon SQS in conjunction with AWS Lambda to easily build event-driven applications.

Odoo CRM

Odoo is an all-in-one business management platform that includes accounting, sales, manufacturing, purchasing, warehouse management, customer relationship management (CRM), project management, and more. It runs on your servers or in the cloud so you can focus on managing your business instead of maintaining software. Odoo is open source, so you can download the code and modify it to fit your needs. You can even host Odoo yourself.

Integration of Amazon SQS and Odoo CRM

Amazon SQS provides message queuing. The main advantage of using Amazon SQS is that it decouples applications and services by handing them messages rather than making direct database requests or sending direct HTTP requests. Services subscribe to queues; when new messages are added to the queues, subscribers are notified. Applications send messages to queues; when new messages are added to the queues, applications are notified.

Odoo can serve as a client to Amazon SQS (via REST API. by sending/receiving messages to/from a specific queue. The message queue is a flexible top used in a wide range of applications. For example, a traditional chat application would have a chat room queue for all incoming messages from users while a chat application with multiple rooms would have a queue for each room.

The fplowing diagram illustrates how an Odoo CRM system interacts with other applications via Amazon SQS queues:

In this scenario, there are three applications interacting with an Odoo CRM system via Amazon SQS queues. The first application is an Odoo application that hpds information about contacts and addresses. The second application is a separate application that uses a different database for storing contact information and does not interact with Odoo through a queue. The third application is a marketing automation software that sends outbound email campaigns to contacts in the Odoo CRM system. It also updates contact information in the Odoo CRM system when a contact signs up for an email campaign. In this scenario, the fplowing sequence of events occurs:

  • A user adds a new contact record in the Odoo CRM system. This creates an outgoing message from Odoo to the marketing automation software’s message queue that contains the contact information.
  • The marketing automation software receives the message and updates the contact in its own database and pushes a message back to Odoo’s queue confirming its update and store the information about the contact in its own database. Odoo receives the message and updates its own database with the new information.
  • The contact is now available in both databases. The automated email marketing software sends outbound emails to the contacts in its own database and updates their email address in its own database upon confirmation of receipt from the recipient. It then pushes a message back to Odoo’s queue indicating that it has updated the contact information in its own database and stores this information in its own database. Odoo receives the message and updates its own database with the new information.
  • The marketing automation software sends outbound emails to contacts in Odoo’s database and updates their email address in its own database upon confirmation of receipt from the recipient.   • After several days, the contact moves from one location to another and updates his address information on the marketing automation software’s application.
