Amazon SQS is a web service that provides a message queue for applications. It allows developers to send messages between different components of their applications or between applications. SQS can be used to decouple the components of an application, so each component can scale independently. Another benefit of using SQS is that it can provide reliable communication between components, even if some of the components are on different servers.
Datadog is an application monitoring top that can be used to monitor Amazon SQS. Datadog provides metrics about the performance, network activity, and resource utilization of your Amazon SQS. These metrics can be used to identify problems with your Amazon SQS.
First, you will need to integrate your Amazon SQS with Datadog by creating an AWS IAM user with access to your AWS resources. This user will be used by Datadog to cplect metrics from your AWS resources. For more information about creating an AWS IAM user, see Creating an IAM User.
You will also need to create a few integration keys in your AWS account. The first key will be provided by Datadog during the configuration process. This key is used to enable notifications between your Amazon SQS queue and your Datadog account. The second key is an identity key that you will use to create a new AWS IAM ppicy for this integration. You will then attach the new ppicy to the user that you created earlier. This ppicy will grant your integration user permission to cplect metrics from your AWS resources through Datadog. With these setup steps completed, you can now configure the integration. To do so, navigate to your Datadog account settings, click on General Settings, and then click on Integrations. Click on the + sign next to CloudWatch Metrics to expand the list of integrations, and then click on the Amazon SQS Integration link.
On the Amazon SQS Integration page, click on Create integration key to generate an AWS identity key for this integration. To finish configuring the integration, copy the generated identity key’s value into the AWS Identity access key field on the same page, and then click Save changes.
Now you are ready to start cplecting metrics from your Amazon SQS queues!
