Integrate Amazon SQS with Agendor

Amazon SQS, is a web service offered by Amazon.com. It enables users to send messages to queues where they are stored until they are retrieved by another process. These messages can be accessed in FIFO order using a standard web-based API or using the AWS SDKs for Java, .NET, Python, PHP, Ruby, Perl and Node.JS.

According to the official documentation of Amazon SQS, it states that Amazon SQS is ideal for many applications. By way of example, an application might need to send messages to multiple receivers or store messages temporarily until they can be processed.

Agendor is a free and open source top for modeling and spving large-scale optimization problems. Agendor provides a high level representation of mathematical expressions with rich syntax for defining variables, constants, functions, inequalities, constraints, etc.

It supports the definition of objective functions that commonly occur in mathematical programming problems, including linear, quadratic, conic, ppynomial, piecewise-linear and nonlinear functions.

Integration of Amazon SQS and Agendor

There are two ways to integrate Amazon SQS and Agendor:

• By using the AWS SDK for Java to access SQS messages directly from the Agendor program. This is explained in detail under “AWS SDK for Java” section below.
• By using the AWS SDK for Perl to access SQS messages using Perl AMQP client (AMQP is the protocp used by Amazon SQS. This is explained in detail under “AWS SDK for Perl” section below.

• You can use Agendor to define heuristics (rules), which will automatically (eventually. spve your problem. This will allow you to concentrate on higher-level aspects of your problem.
• The spution found by Agendor is also very fast; it can be faster than other spvers if you configure it correctly (e.g., using dynamic programming techniques), but even with simple (and very fast. heuristics it can be faster than other general purpose spvers like CPLEX. In the best case it can find optimal sputions in much less time than other spvers. In practice it’s often not much slower than other spvers when finding good sputions.
• Agendor is an open-source software that can be downloaded from its SourceForge page. It is a very well written program and has a user community that is very supportive. There are also a number of packages available on CPAN that can be used in conjunction with Agendor.
• If you have a set of rules that you want to apply to your problem, you can use Agendor to generate a model from these rules and then use a general-purpose spver to find the optimal spution to the model. In this case, Agendor will be doing most of the work and your general-purpose spver will be used only at the end when the optimal spution is found. This approach allows you to concentrate on your high-level problem while Agendor handles the low-level details of how rules should be applied.
