    What is Amazon EC2?

  • Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. To enable this, Amazon EC2 provides a web service API that can be used to create and terminate virtual servers on demand. 2. Users can pay on demand for Amazon EC2 services, allowing usage to be scaled up or down as needed. Amazon EC2 charges its users based on their usage of system resources. The charge includes not only the compute costs, but also the storage and networking resources that are provisioned. 3. Amazon EC2 provides a web service API that can be used to programmatically control server creation, termination, and monitoring. This enables the automation of tasks like stopping instances and migrating running instances to better host computers. 4. Amazon EC2 allows users to create multiple isolated "virtual" servers within a single instance. This is called tenancy. For example, if you purchase a micro instance, your account will be assigned one or more physical cores. You could then run several different virtual servers or instances on your account with their own IP addresses, operating systems, and software configurations. 5. Amazon EC2 charges users based on their usage of system resources. The charge includes not only the compute costs, but also the storage and networking resources that are provisioned. 6. The AWS Free Tier is available to new AWS customers and allows them to receive a free allocation of system resources for one year. The free tier includes 750 hours per month of EC2 compute time for one year and 20GB of Amazon S3 storage for one year after sign up. 7. AWS Organizations allows administrators to centrally manage Amazon EC2 instances across multiple accounts and organize them into hierarchies similar to a company's reporting structure.
