Integration of Amazon EC2 and Dropbox

    What is Amazon EC2?

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. is a web service that provides resizable cloud computing capacity in the cloud. It is a part of Amazon Web Services (AWS), a set of remote computing services that make up a cloud-computing platform offered by Amazon.com. Amazon EC2 provides users with flexibility to focus on their business applications rather than spending time and energy on maintaining the infrastructure required to run them.Amazon EC2 enables users to launch as many as hundreds of virtual computers, located in Amazon data centers around the world, through a web service interface. The user can have these virtual computers hosted within their own account, or have Amazon host them at no charge, then pay only for usage.Amazon EC2 provides users with control of the operating system, storage, and networking used by the virtual computers, and the ability to use their existing programming language and tools to manage the virtual computers.Computers within an EC2 deployment can communicate with each other across multiple availability zones, which are physical locations within an overall region. This arrangement provides a high level of redundancy and failover capability as well as scalability for applications running on Amazon EC2.

    What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. Users can create folders to save content such as original files, documents, photos, videos, and music to Dropbox. Additionally, files can be shared publicly or with specific people. Dropbox has client software available for Windows, OS X, Android and iOS.Users can upload documents from their desktop computers directly into the Dropbox folder in order to store it online. Dropbox uses Amazon S3 for some file storage features. In 2012, Dropbox introduced Dropbox Paper for creating documents collaboratively. On July 24, 2012, Dropbox acquired Mailbox, an email app company. On April 8, 2013, Dropbox announced that it had reached 100 million users. In 2014, it was reported that Dropbox has 500 million users. In October 2015, Dropbox announced that it had 500 million registered users, with 200 million using the service every month; at that time it had 400 employees. The Wall Street Journal reported in December 2015 that 200,000 businesses were paying subscribers for a total of $600 million in revenue in 2015. In February 2016, it officially announced that it had 300 million users. As of June 2017, it has 400 million users with more than 200,000 businesses paying subscribers for a total of $1 billion revenue in 2016.

Integration of Amazon EC2 and Dropbox

In this section I will show how both Amazon EC2 and Dropbox can be integrated together to promote business benefits such as scalability and redundancy. This integration will be done through creating a virtual private cloud using AWS technology and connecting it to Dropbox so that any changes made on AWS will automatically sync with the Dropbox for all users working on the same project. Both Amazon EC2 and Dropbox are cloud based technologies so they should work well together with minimal issues if they are properly integrated. The easiest way to do this integration would be to create a virtual server on AWS and install Dropbox on it then connect it to your own computer through remote desktop connections using TeamViewer. But most businesses are not set up to purchase servers like this and don't want the risk of losing their information if anything happens to the server which is why I would recommend using a cloud based solution called Xen Orchestra which allows you to manage the server from anywhere using your own computer's internet connection and monitor downloads going on within your virtual environment as well as reboot the server when necessary. There are other similar services out there but I would recommend Xen Orchestra because they have one of the best price plans out there ($0-$59/month. compared to others like Digital Ocean ($5/month. or Vultr ($8/month. Plus they have tutorials on how to set up different instances like WordPress or Minecraft which I think is really helpful for people who don't know how to use AWS or other similar services unless you have experience doing so. Another reason I would recommend Xen Orchestra is because they offer 24/7 US-based support unlike other companies like Digital Ocean. To integrate Dropbox with AWS simply follow the steps below:

1.. Sign up for Xen Orchestra using your email account (https://xo-app.com/)2.. Under the main menu click 'Instances' then click 'Create Instance'. From there you will be prompted to choose your desired operating system which would be either Ubuntu or Debian (I would recommend Ubuntu. Once you have chosen your desired operating system click 'Next'.3.. On this screen you want to select Amazon Linux AMI from the dropdown menu and then click 'Next'.4.. For this next step you will need to enter your AWS credentials which you can find by going to https://dashboard.aws.amazon.com/. Once you enter your credentials click 'Next' and then click 'Create' on the following screen.4.. You will now be brought back to the main menu where you should see your new instance created under 'Instances'. Click on it to access your new server dashboard where you will then click 'Connect' under 'Connecting To Your Instance' located near the top right corner of your screen.5.. Now click 'Yes' on the following pop-up window and then click 'Show Password'. At this point you will be prompted to download TeamViewer so that you can remotely connect to your new server using your personal computer's internet connection (Note. This requires TeamViewer software in order to connect. Once downloaded click 'Finish' then log into your Xen Orchestra account again and you should see TeamViewer installed on your server's dashboard as shown below:6.. Now click 'Start' and you should now be connected to your remote server through your personal computer's internet connection! From here you can download Dropbox onto your new AWS server by searching for it on the Ubuntu Software Center or install it from running the command line (sudo apt-get install dropbox. then configure it by clicking 'FileManager > Preferences > General > Edit' from within Dropbox's navigation bar located at the top of your screen:7.. Once there click 'Advanced' and check off the box next to 'Allow direct file editing from other computers'. Then exit out of preferences by clicking 'OK' then log out of Dropbox by clicking 'File Manager > Logout'. Once logged out open Terminal (Ctrl + Alt+T. from within Dropbox's navigation bar located at the top of your screen then type in "sudo rm -rf ~/.dropbox" without quotation marks of course then hit Enter on your keyboard and dropbox should connect automatically once finished:8.. Finally go back into Terminal (Ctrl + Alt+T. from within Dropbox's navigation bar located at the top of your screen then type in "sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dropbox/" without quotation marks of course then hit Enter on your keyboard and dropbox should connect automatically once finished:9.. Congratulations! You have now successfully integrated AWS and Dropbox! To test this out change something in AWS like adding a file then check if it changed in DropBox immediately after saving changes. If everything went according to plan then changes made within AWS will instantly sync with Dropbox allowing for easy collaboration between members working on the same project! If you need any help setting this up then feel free to message me at [email protected] or comment below with questions!

B. Benefits of Integration of Amazon EC2 and Dropbox:Once these two technologies have been fully integrated there are many benefits that can come from this such as cost savings in the long run because outages will not occur as often since there is built in redundancy with both technologies being present in case one fails which will cut down on costs spent fixing servers and having our clients lose valuable information because there is built in scalability allowing more users to collaborate easily at once because any changes made will be instantly synced among all collaborators allowing for real-time development similar to Google Docs! Not only that but this also opens up more opportunities for our clients allowing them to do more for less money by allowing them more freedom with their technology while still getting what they need!

The process to integrate Amazon EC2 and Dropbox may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick solution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
