Amazon DynamoDB is a fully managed, highly available, NoSQL database service. It provides fast and predictable performance with seamless scalability.

DynamoDB stores data in tables. Each table is an unordered set of items called items. Each item is a cplection of attributes. A primary key uniquely identifies each item in a table. An attribute is the name-value pair of a particular item. The value can be up to 256 KB in size. When you create a table, you specify the primary key for the table. You can specify up to 25 secondary keys for a table.

Snapchat is one of the fastest growing web services. With over 50 million users, Snapchat has become the undisputed leader in self-destructing photo sharing. Unlike other messaging apps like Twitter or Facebook, Snapchat allows users to send pictures that will disappear after a few seconds. Its ephemerality has been a boon to the app’s popularity among teens, especially high schop and cplege students who are reluctant to share private photos with the public.

Integration of Amazon DynamoDB and Snapchat will be discussed in detail below:

Snapchat is a web application that enables its users to send messages and photos to their friends or contacts through mobile devices. Snapchat was founded by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy from Stanford University in 2011. Snapchat is considered by analysts as one of the fastest growing social media platforms in the world. The company has grown from 100 million users in 2012 to over 100 million users per day in 2013. The company is valued at $2 billion and is led by CEO Evan Spiegel, who was named one of Time’s Most Influential Teens of 2014. In June 2014, the company released Spectacles, a video-capturing sunglasses product produced and marketed by Snapchat Inc.

Snapchat offers various features including chat, story posting, and live stories. Chat allows users to send text messages to friends or contacts using the app. There are two types of chats. 1. private chats which allow users to send encrypted messages to certain contacts, and 2. group chats which allow users to connect with friends or contacts using the app. Users can send photographs or videos on chat that will disappear after a few seconds. Users can also add text to their photo before sending it to recipients. Users can also add text captions on their pictures to give context on what is being photographed or sent through chat.

The second feature offered by Snapchat is Story Posting which lets users post images or videos they have taken using their mobile device. Stories are available for 24 hours and then they disappear automatically after that period is up. Users can add captions to their photos or videos as well as drawings or text before posting them on their stories page where they can be viewed by their contacts or friends using the app on their mobile device. In 2014, Snapchat introduced new features that allow users to view stories of special events and sports games such as real-time scores, highlights, and commentary on ESPN’s popular SportsCenter segment, “SC Featured”. This feature has been used by different event organizers such as Lionsgate Films to promote their movies and TV shows through this feature. This feature has gained popularity among sports fans due to the convenience of not needing to wait until evening news programs like SportsCenter are aired in order to see highlights of their favorite sporting events. The third feature offered by Snapchat is Live Stories which let users share live experiences with their friends through stories that are curated from Snaps that are submitted from around the world using this feature.
