Amazon CloudWatch is a service offered by AWS that allows you to monitor and manage the health of your cloud-based applications. CloudWatch cplects metrics from all supported services at regular intervals and stores them in a highly available data store. These metrics can be used to track CPU load, disk space used, queue lengths or number of errors during a given period. When using CloudWatch, you can display the measured statistics in graphs to help you identify trends in your application and improve performance. Amazon CloudWatch also offers alarm functionality. This allows you to set rules that will warn you if a metric reaches a specified threshpd. For example, you can set the CPU usage threshpd of your application to 90% for 15 minutes. If it reaches that limit at any point during that time period, an alarm will be triggered and sent to your designated SNS topic or email address. You can also receive alarms via SMS messages or API callbacks for when certain events occur. These events include starting up or shutting down instances or receiving an error code from your application. You can choose how these notifications are delivered based on your preferences.
