Integration of Amazon CloudWatch and Calendly

Amazon CloudWatch is a service that helps you monitor the performance of your AWS resources. It provides statistics on CPU utilization, disk I/O, network traffic and other parameters. It also provides metrics on the performance of Amazon EC2 instances, Amazon RDS DB instances and Elastic Load Balancing load balancers.Calendly is a scheduling tool which facilitates the process of making appointments with people via a calendar interface.

Amazon CloudWatch can be used to set up notifications when thresholds are exceeded. For instance, if you want to get notified when the disk space usage on an instance exceeds 80%, you can setup a notification for this. This can be done by creating an Amazon CloudWatch Alarm.A notification can also be set up on the average CPU utilization of an instance. If the average CPU utilization is more than 80%, then you can be notified through an alarm. Similarly, alarms can also be set up for network traffic, disk I/O or any other parameter available in CloudWatch. The integration of Calendly and Amazon CloudWatch enables the scheduling of automated monitoring of Amazon CloudWatch metrics. For example, suppose you have set up an alarm for disk space usage that is triggered when the average disk space usage of an instance exceeds 80%. Let's say that you have setup an action in Calendly for this alarm that schedules a CloudWatch metric report every 5 minutes for 1 hour. In this case, at the end of 60 minutes (1 hour), you'll receive a report that will give you the average disk space usage for the past 1 hour. When setting up actions in Calendly for alarms, you can choose from different options.(a. For actions based on CloudWatch Alarms:In this case, you can schedule a CloudWatch report to be generated after the alarm is triggered. You can also specify what metric to be reported upon, the time interval for generating the reports and how many reports to be generated. The frequency at which these reports are generated can be as low as every 5 minutes to as high as every 8 hours. This is very useful because once an alarm is set for an instance, it may take some time before someone notices this alarm or takes any action. But by integrating these two tools, you can make sure that if any metric threshold is breached, you'll know about it right away so that you can take action immediately. Also, there might be situations where you want to track increased load on an instance over a period of time and not exceed the threshold only once. In such cases, you can schedule reports in Calendly on a regular interval and monitor the increased load over time.(b. For actions based on Metric Notifications:CloudWatch metric notifications can also be used to trigger actions in Calendly. This is similar to using alarms in Calendly except that instead of getting reports automatically after the threshold is breached, you get notifications sent to your email address.

The integration of these two tools is useful because it helps automate monitoring of CloudWatch metrics. For example, you no longer need to manually check if there's an increase in load on an instance or if there's a sudden spike in disk space usage. You'll get immediate notifications through actions in Calendly whenever there's a breach of any threshold in CloudWatch.

The process to integrate Amazon CloudWatch and Calendly may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick solution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
