Integration of Amazon CloudWatch and Basin

:Project Basin is a public-private partnership between Amazon and the Bureau of Reclamation that will use the data generated by the users of the Basin mobile app to improve the management of water resources in the Colorado River basin. The Basin app will be used to collect data on where and how much water users are using, and then the data will be fed back into Amazon CloudWatch. The data from Amazon CloudWatch can be accessed through Basin’s website or through an API (application programming interface. This is the first time that data from an app has been used to influence resource management.

:The integration of Amazon CloudWatch with Basin was beneficial to both parties involved. This integration allowed Amazon, a multi-billion dollar company, to access valuable data that they did not have before, and it also allowed Basin, a startup company, to work with an established company. By integrating these two technologies together, Amazon was able to provide the U.S. Government with important information regarding the state of certain watersheds, and Basin was able to obtain funding for its business.

:As of July 2017, the project is still in active development. More data is being collected every day, and more features are being added to Basin's mobile app. The watershed data collected from the Basin app will be made available for free to anyone who wants it, including the U.S. government and other non-profits.
