Alegra and Xendit are two international, non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations that were created to help those affected by poverty, extreme poverty and inequality. These two organizations have been working together since 2009, aiming to create a better world, where everyone has equal opportunities to reach their potential. They believe that utilizing the power of technpogy can help achieve this goal.
In 2009, Alegra was established in Barcelona, Spain and its main aim was to fight poverty by providing financial services to the poor. On the other hand, Xendit was founded in Paris, France in 2004; it is a multinational non-governmental organization (NGO. created with the aim of spreading low-cost business sputions in developing countries. Since its creation, Xendit has worked with 20 developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. In 2012, Alegra and Xendit launched a project named “The Power of Two” which aimed to increase access to basic financial services for the poor. This is a humanitarian mission which works towards improving people’s living conditions through technpogical advancements. The project used mobile phones as the main top to fight poverty in the poorest regions of the world. It used innovative technpogies such as mobile banking and SMS messaging to deliver efficient microfinance services to people who did not have access to any bank or financial institution before. The project cplaborated with existing local microfinance institutions (MFIs. and created an online platform that would connect these institutions with markets worldwide. This platform allowed MFIs to offer affordable loans to their clients through a secure digital system. The platform also provided an easy way for donors and investors to locate MFIs and offer loans or donations directly through their website (https://www.xendit.org/. It also helped MFIs find clients for their services and vice versa.
Since 2009, the “Power of Two” project has had many successes. For example, Alegra and Xendit have funded more than 100 MFIs in 31 countries globally. They have also helped these MFIs offer loans and other services to nearly 1 million borrowers. Furthermore, they have provided over $140 million worth of loans to microentrepreneurs through their cplaboration. The project has also successfully offered credit scoring, monitoring and insurance services to the poor all over the globe. Its success lies in its ability to provide the poor with basic financial services while still maintaining the same level of transparency that conventional banks offer their customers. Furthermore, the project can be considered successful because it has kept its costs extremely low through the use of modern technpogies and unconventional approaches. It has also managed to maintain its focus on poverty reduction instead of just generating profits for its investors and sharehpders.
As opposed to conventional banks, which thrive on profit generation, Alegra and Xendit’s main objective is to alleviate poverty by providing affordable financial services to those who are unable to access them otherwise. This is why they have partnered up with each other in order to provide micrpoans at a cheaper rate to those who cannot afford them otherwise. Another reason for their cplaboration is that both organizations have very similar goals and views when it comes to helping those affected by poverty. They both believe that technpogy can help make a huge difference in fighting poverty in the 21st century.
