Alegra?

Alegra is a RESTful API that can be used to create and manage SMS and MMS communication channels. It also supports the creation of two-way communication channels which can send and receive messages along with an unlimited number of users. These users can be connected via a web user interface or a self-service portal.

Twilio?

Twilio is a cloud-based communication platform that allows developers to build applications that enables communication over the Internet. With Twilio, you can send and receive text messages, make phone calls, send instant messages, and receive push notifications from any device, anywhere in the world.

Integration of Alegra and Twilio

In this section, we will take a look at how the integration between Alegra and Twilio would work. We will be focusing on a scenario where a user wants to send a message to another user.

Integration of Alegra and Twilio

  • The first step happens when a user logs into the Alegra application. Here, he needs to send a text message to another user as shown in the fplowing figure:
  • In this example, we have assumed that the other user has already been added to the messenger application. To add this user to the messenger application, the first user will need to go to the User Management section of the web portal of the messenger application. Once this is done, he can search for the contact details of the second user which are their mobile number or email address. Once he has found this information, he will need to enter it in the Manage Users section under Contact Details. Once this information has been entered, he will be able to go back to the messenger application and send a text message to this user.
  • Once the second user receives this text message, he will be able to reply to the text message by clicking on Reply on his mobile device or his computer. As soon as he clicks on Reply, he will be presented with three options by default. He may choose to reply via SMS if he has activated his SIM card on an Alegra channel which is connected to his mobile device or he may choose to reply via voice call if the SIM card is connected to an Alegra channel connected to his mobile device. However, in this example, he has chosen to reply via an IM channel. This means that he will be able to see all the messages which have been sent by him or have been sent to him through this channel. Note that if he did not have this channel set up then the only option available would have been SMS.
  • Once the second user has clicked on Reply, he will be taken to another screen where he can view all the messages sent by him or received by him through this channel.
  • Now, when the first user receives this message, he can respond in exactly the same way as explained above in steps 2 and 3.
  • If the second user wants to delete his account then he can do so by going into his profile under User Management in the web portal of the messenger application and clicking on Delete Account.
  • The first user can delete his account by going into his profile under User Management in the web portal of the messenger application and clicking on Delete Account.
  • If one of these users wants to delete only his contact with another user, then he can do so by going into his profile under Contact Details in the web portal of the messenger application and clicking on Edit Details. Then, he can click on Delete From Contact List option in order to remove this contact from his contact list.
  • Both users may want to stop using this messenger application altogether. If they want to do so then they can delete their accounts by going into their profiles under User Management in the web portal of the messenger application and clicking on Delete Account option under each profile respectively.
  • If both users want to stop using this service altogether, then they should contact their respective administrators or resellers who might help them out in this case.
  • Once either of these users has deleted their account from this messenger application then they will not be able to login again unless they create a new account with a different username using different credentials specified while creating a new account/profile in the web portal of messenger application respectively.
  • Now, if both users want to chat with each other using any other messaging platform such as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp Messenger then they will have to install those applications on their devices respectively and use them for chatting purposes instead of using this messenger application for their chatting purposes.
