Integration of Airtable and PagerDuty

Airtable is software designed to be a web-based spreadsheet. It has features that make it useful for project management, data visualization, and data sharing. Airtable uses spreadsheets as the primary way of organizing data, and adds additional capabilities such as versioning, permissions, and cplaboration. Airtable allows users to organize data in a number of ways:

Cpumns can be used as a method of organization, similar to a spreadsheet

Tables can be used as a method of organization, similar to a spreadsheet

Trello Kanban boards can be used as a method of organization, similar to a board that you might use on Trello

Gantt charts can be used as a method of organization, similar to a Gantt chart on Microsoft Project

As the user creates new datasets, they can be organized into any combination of these models. Airtable updates automatically as the user edits or adds more information.

PagerDuty is an incident management platform that automates alerting of on-call teams and escalations of incidents. It allows users to create different procedures for different alerts and integrates with over 500 products. PagerDuty was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. It was originally built as an internal top to avoid alert fatigue, but it later became the company's main product.

Integration of Airtable and PagerDuty

When integrating Airtable and PagerDuty, I recommend starting with PagerDuty as the main hub. Creating a project inside PagerDuty will allow you to see all incidents with a specific tag or incident type. You can also create procedures for specific tags or incident types. This allows you to have a single place to go for all incidents related to a specific tag or incident type. When creating a procedure for a specific tag or incident type, I recommend using a Trello workflow. This will allow users to have one place to go with the details about the incident and how it should be handled. The Trello workflow can be accessed from any browser and contains details about the incident. These details include who is on call for the incident, how it is being escalated, what communication has been sent to the on-call team already, expectations for communication from the on-call team, etc. This workflow can also contain links to files that are necessary for the incident, such as system logs. If your organization wants to send out push notifications when an incident occurs, this is easily done with PagerDuty's API. This will allow you to match up your push notification with your Trello workflow or any other communication that you want to send out. Being able to send push notifications will allow you to get immediate response to an incident instead of waiting for someone to check their email or Slack channel for an update on the incident. Another benefit of having PagerDuty as the main hub is that you can set up alerts based on incidents that are created in other systems. For example, if there is an issue with Google Analytics you could set up an alert in PagerDuty based on an issue in Google Analytics. This will allow you to make sure that you are informed about issues in Google Analytics by checking PagerDuty instead of having to check Google Analytics directly. The last thing that I would recommend when integrating Airtable and PagerDuty is adding labels in Airtable based on tags in PagerDuty. I would recommend doing this because it allows you to view all issues that are associated with a specific tag/label/procedure across both systems. This will allow you to view all incidents associated with an issue without having to visit multiple systems.
