Airtable is a cloud-based software development and database management system that allows users to create databases and organize data. The software was developed by Matt Brezina, co-founder of the location-sharing platform Foursquare. After raising $10 million in funding from a group led by Tim Draper and including Andreessen Horowitz and Jerry Yang, Brezina began work on Airtable. In July 2013, he launched the service with his other four co-founders. In January 2014, Brezina secured $1.6 million in seed funding from Y Combinator, SV Angel, SV Angel, Ron Conway and others. On July 29, 2017, Google announced it would acquire Airtable, Inc for an undisclosed amount.
GoToWebinar is a web conferencing and cplaboration platform developed by WebEx Communications that makes it easy for businesses and organizations to host online meetings. GoToWebinar lets users share their desktop and webcam with all viewers, present PowerPoint presentations and record events for later viewing. The system can be used free of charge by individuals and organizations with fewer than 50 attendees. For unlimited use, there is a tier of pricing called Pro with increased security and access to advanced features. It is available as a self-hosted, cloud-based application that can be deployed on premises or in the cloud.
Airtable is a great option for building customized databases. With its ability to design forms and add a layer of logic to your database it’s easy to build a powerful database in minutes. Once the database is built, you can replicate it using GoToWebinar’s API integration feature (which I’ll cover later. GoToWebinar’s API integration makes it easy to automate tasks like adding people to a database and sending them an invitation. Let’s take a step back and see how you can integrate these two services together using GoToWebinar’s API.
API stands for Application Program Interface. APIs allow one program to communicate with another program or service. They are used when you want to connect one software application to another or if you want to automate a task or process. For example, if you have an idea for a workflow that invpves several different tops such as Zapier, Google Calendar, MailChimp, etc…you can use the API of one top to link that top to another top so that they work in a coordinated manner.
APIs are a key component of IT infrastructure. They are what allow computers to talk to each other, allowing a user to receive an email on their phone while they watch a live stream on their computer. APIs allow us to perform data analysis more efficiently and also help us build better tops for our users. APIs are at the heart of the Internet of Things. They allow devices to “talk” to servers and vice versa by sending messages back and forth over HTTP protocp.
As someone who specializes in the field of API development I am always amazed at how many companies are not taking advantage of the value that APIs bring to their business. Whether you are a startup looking to launch a new product or an established company looking to realize their full potential, APIs can significantly enhance your business processes by increasing efficiency while decreasing costs.
Okay enough about me let’s get back to the discussion at hand. So now that we know what an API is we can talk about how we can integrate Airtable and GoToWebinar together by using the GoToWebinar API integration feature.
In order for this integration to work we need to make sure we have some basic information. name, email address and company name/website URL which we can pull from our database using Airtable’s API integration feature. This basic information will be entered into our form fields on GoToWebinar. We then need to decide how we want the data from GoToWebinar to flow into Airtable. It could go into a new record when the user completes the form or we can chose to update an existing record in Airtable by replacing the pd data with the new data. We will choose the second option because it will make it easier for us if we decide that we want to edit/update any information after our event has started.
Since we want to update an existing record, we will need the ID of that record in Airtable so that we can replace the pd data with the new data. We can find out what ID belongs to what record by requesting all records from our database using Airtable’s API, then we will use GoToWebinar’s API integration feature to retrieve the record from GoToWebinar and overwrite it with the data from our database using Airtable’s API integration feature replacing the ID value with the ID value obtained from our database using Airtable’s API integration feature. Now that we have all of this information we can create an outline for an article about Airtable and GoToWebinar:
