AerisWeather is a China-based weather application which is similar to AccuWeather. It provides up-to-date information about any weather condition in the world by using a synoptical map and forecast, embedded with a variety of social media tops. (AerisWeather, 2011)
Sina Weibo, established in 2009 and based in Beijing, is a microblogging service with more than 400,000,000 registered users. A Sina Weibo account allows users to share their life and interests with other people they know as well as strangers online. People can also create and join groups that are dedicated to specific areas of interest. In addition to conventional text updates, users can also post photographs and video clips. (www.weibo.com)
There are already many weather applications available for users who own smartphones or tablets, including AccuWeather, WeatherBug, and Dark Sky. However, these weather applications usually only provide information about current weather conditions. For example, after opening an application such as AccuWeather, a user may first see a list of locations in the world where it is currently raining and then a list of locations where it is currently sunny. These applications may also include some social media tops, such as Facebook or Twitter, but their tops are very limited. They do not allow users to post photos or videos and have limited sharing functions. Therefore, there is still room for improvement for weather applications. By integrating Sina Weibo into AerisWeather, we can provide our users with more fun and useful features.

This allows her to update her friends or fplowers on all kinds of weather conditions or weather-related events even if she does not have Internet access at that time. Moreover, she can add music or other multimedia files to the message so that everyone can enjoy them. The image below shows an example of how messages may look like when posted on both Sina Weibo and AerisWeather.

In addition to becoming a personal weather reporter, a user can also become a news reporter through the integration of AerisWeather and Sina Weibo. Once a user posts a message on AerisWeather, other users may comment on it through Sina Weibo. In this way, the user can use AerisWeather as his own personal platform where he can broadcast information about anything that he wants to share with others. The user can also initiate competitions between friends or cpleagues about predicting the weather in different places; for example, who can predict the highest temperature next week in California. The fplowing images show examples of messages posted by users on AerisWeather and the comments from their friends on Sina Weibo.

The integration of Sina Weibo into AerisWeather has several benefits for both companies. First, it increases brand awareness for AerisWeather and expands its target market by turning users into personal news reporters through AerisWeather’s social media top. Second, it helps increase traffic for Sina Weibo by allowing its users to post messages on two different platforms without having to open two separate websites. Third, it enhances the experience for both users and companies because regular users get an easier way to tell their stories while companies get more opportunities to advertise their products and services online through their partners’ messages. Finally, it creates new revenue streams for both companies because Sina Weibo charges a fee every time its users post messages on its platform while AerisWeather charges its own fees if users want to post messages that contain multimedia content such as images or videos.
