This paper will discuss the integration of Adobe Connect and DEAR Inventory.
First, I will discuss what Adobe Connect is. Adobe Connect is software that allows people to use webcams, microphones, and video chat with others all over the world. It also gives users the ability to share their screens or PowerPoint presentations. Also, it allows users to work together on projects. Users can even set up a group call via Adobe Connect. The groups can be created by having users share an email address. They can also be created by creating a group name for them to call, if they do not have an email address. Adobe Connect also has a feature called “Adobe House Party” which allows users to use their desktop computer to contrp their web camera. This feature makes it easier for people to use the Adobe Connect software because they don’t need to know how to use their webcam software. When Adobe Connect is used with the DEAR Inventory, Adobe Connect becomes the hub for the DEAR Inventory. The DEAR Inventory is a set of thirty-six questions that are designed to discover what students know about their own reading abilities. Each question is designed to help readers determine their instructional needs so they can improve their reading skills. From these questions, teachers can find out if their students are comprehending what they are reading, if they are engaged in the text, or if they are struggling with other aspects of reading. These questions are organized into four different categories. reading comprehension, readiness, engagement, and motivation. The answers are not just multiple choice answers but are written answers. These answers are evidence of what students think about reading and how they feel about reading. In the classroom, if a teacher assigns a piece of classwork or homework that requires students to read something from a book or from a website, students will take the DEAR Inventory. After they have finished taking the DEAR Inventory, they will click on the link that says “Show my results” and then go to a webpage that will tell them how they did on each question and what area needs improvement. This webpage will also show the teacher what areas need improvement as well as what areas need intervention. If a student fails a question, they will have an option to retake it until they get it right or until they reach a certain number of tries. If they do not respond to the question correctly they will see their score at the bottom of the page. This webpage will also give teachers information about each question including why they may have missed it and what they can do to improve their score. Another way that Adobe Connect helps DEAR Inventory is that Adobe Connect has a feature called “Smartboard” that allows for a teacher to contrp a projector screen with a smart board using a laptop or desktop computer. A teacher can project images from a smart board onto a screen using Adobe Connect and display the student results side by side with the teacher’s results on one screen for both teachers and students to see. Teachers will be able to show this screen to the class as well as the student who took the DEAR Inventory so everybody can learn from each other’s mistakes and successes. This will allow students to see what areas they need improvement in and what areas they need intervention in order to succeed in those areas and improve their reading skills overall.
In conclusion, Adobe Connect and DEAR Inventory work very well together because Adobe Connect allows for easy sharing of information between teachers and students and it allows students to create groups of people who like to work together on projects and share information with one another such as the DEAR Inventory information. It also allows students to use features such as “Adobe House Party” which make it easier for them to use the Adobe Connect software without having to know how to use their webcam software. These things allow students to gain better knowledge of their individual strengths and weaknesses and improve upon them faster than if they didn’t have the help of Adobe Connect; this is because Adobe Connect creates a more personable relationship between teachers and students and gives them more time for one on one instruction and improvement programs that are designed specifically for them.
