What is 3Dcart?

3Dcart is open source shopping cart software. It is designed to help merchants sell their products and services online. It has a lot of features that make it easy for anyone to start an online store.

What is Downtime Alert?

Downtime Alert is a free service provided by Downtime Center. It can monitor your website or any other Internet address 24 hours a day. When your site experiences downtime, Downtime Alert will notify you via email, Twitter or text message as soon as possible.

Integration of 3Dcart and Downtime Alert

Integration refers to the connection between two independent systems. Integration can be achieved by two ways. one way is synchronous integration, which executes the integration process in real time; another way is asynchronous integration, which can be done at the end of the day or at a scheduled time. Synchronous integration means that the system under test is fully integrated into the environment in which the test is run. In this case, running the test without the third-party software would mean having 3DCart and Downtime Alert running on the same computer at the same time. The advantage is that testing results are more accurate than when done with asynchronous integration. However, synchronous integration takes longer time and requires more resources than asynchronous integration. Although it only takes one day to get Downtime Alert up and running on Ubuntu 12.04, we choose to use asynchronous integration since we want to finish the whpe project within one week.
