What Validation Is Not

Validation is not market research, though market research is part of it. Market research tells you the size of a market, the demographics of potential users, and the competitive landscape. The best signal of all: someone tries to give you money before you have asked for it. If someone says "I would pay $20/month for that right now," and you have not even mentioned a price, you are onto something real.

Step 4: Test Demand with a Landing Page ($50 Test)

You have defined the problem, researched the market, and talked to 30+ people. The signals are positive. Now it is time to test demand from strangers who have never met you and have no reason to be polite. A simple landing page does this better than anything else.
