No-follow SEO update - New UGC and Sponsored attributes

Lesson Details:
October 07, 2020

I: Introduction

a. Social media has now become a major marketing tool for businesses of all sizes, shapes and industries. With so many social networks to choose from, businesses have begun to understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to social media. The variety of social networks out there, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, has created an incredible opportunity for businesses to tailor their strategy for each network.

b. Recently Google announced that it would be rolling out an update that would place more emphasis on no-follow links for its search results. This update is meant to weed out spammy links that are used to boost rankings in search engines. These links are often used by paid search marketers who do not have any authority to pass link juice and as such will not pass link juice to your site if you use them for your seo and social media marketing strategy.

c. This new update will allow Google to better distinguish between paid and organic links and will allow Google to weed out some spammy links that may be passed through content management systems (CMS). It is very important to make sure that your CMS does not pass on no-follow attributes as these links will essentially be useless as far as passing link juice.

II: Body

a. Links from relevant pages on high authority sites still carry the most weight when it comes to social media marketing strategy and seo. If you want your content shared, it is best to ask permission and link to sites that are relevant and related to your content. If you do not have permission to link to the page, then you should note that Google has said that it will still take into account the relevancy of the linked page.

b. Guest blogging is still a great tactic for building links and generating traffic to your site. Just be careful of using guest posts as a way to generate links. Overuse of this tactic can lead to a negative SEO attack against your website. You can use guest blogging as a way to build relationships with other experts in your niche or as a way to develop a resource that contains numerous sources of information on a specific topic.

c. What do you think about the new update? Which link building tactics do you think will remain viable after the update is rolled out?
