A: Intro of snippets & improving serp clickthrough

Snippets are one of the biggest changes in Google’s algorithm in years. The snippets are the ‘magic window’ that shows above the organic result when people search for something. They are generated algorithmically by Google. If you appear in the snippet box, you have a higher likelihood of getting clicked on. It’s that simple.

Google also says that it rewards websites that contain unique, long descriptions that are not duplicated across the web. These sites are placed higher in the search results because they are relevant, authoritative, and high-quality content. To get there, you have to have long, unique copy. Bonus points if you have video or images embedded in the page too. The snippets are generated algorithmically by Google. If you appear in the snippet box, you have a higher likelihood of getting clicked on. It’s that simple. As a rule of thumb, use this formula to get into the snippet box:

Step 1) Find existing pages that rank well for your target keyword phrase(s).

Step 2) Use these pages as a base to create an article around your keyword phrase(s).

Step 3) Make sure the article has unique content (not duplicated across the web).

Step 4) Make sure it contains images, videos, etc.

Step 5) Don’t forget to add lots of links to related articles, products or services that you offer.

Step 6) Submit your article to social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit etc.

This process will probably take two weeks maximum. Once you get into the snippet box, it will be very difficult for competitors to knock you out. When you consistently get into the snippet box, Google will reward your site with better search rankings. Your clickthrough rate (CTR) will go up dramatically through this process because people will see what they are looking for before clicking away. It cuts down on wasted clicks and helps Google figure out what you are all about!

B: Improving serp clickthrough

Another reason why your CTR goes up is because of “snippet optimization” - i.e. writing good titles, meta descriptions and the body text of the page so that it fits nicely into the snippet box when Google displays it in the search results. Here’s a secret Google doesn’t want anyone to know: People who click through from SERPs don’t spend as much time as people who click directly from a Google ad. So if you can get more CTR from SERPs, you increase your conversions as well as your ad revenues!

To maximize your SERP CTR, you must optimize your title tags and meta description tags on your website. For example, if I wrote a blog post called “Social Media Marketing for SEO” I would end up with a title tag like this: “Social Media Marketing for SEO” Title Tags – How To Get More Traffic From Google Search Results

Meta description tags have been around since Google introduced them back in 2002. They help search engines summarize your content so users can scan it easily and know whether they want to click through or not. In fact, studies show that meta description tags can affect CTR by as much as 80 percent!

So how do you optimize the title tags and meta description tags on your website?

Here’s a simple step-by-step formula you can follow:

Step 1) Figure out which keywords you want to rank for using Google’s Keyword Tool

Step 2) Write your title tag and meta description based on those keywords

Step 3) Take those keywords over to AdWords and see what ads come up (or run some tests yourself).

Step 4) Make sure those ads contain those keywords!

Step 5) Put those ads on Facebook and Twitter and everywhere else you can think of!
