I: Introduction

A: Make money with affiliate marketing

Affiliate programs represent a unique business model that allows the online entrepreneur to earn income from a third party. In a nutshell, affiliating means earning a commission for a sale made by a customer that has been referred to the product or service by you.

The main advantage of affiliate marketing is that it is extremely cost-effective. It does not require the massive overhead costs of traditional advertising and marketing campaigns. Moreover, affiliates can earn cash even if they do not sell anything.

There are different types of affiliate programs, each with its own pros and cons. This article will discuss one of them, namely referral commissions. Referral commissions can be applied to all kinds of goods and services. They are particularly suitable for online businesses where the costs associated with running an affiliate program are relatively low.

There are several types of referral programs. The simplest one is called Pay-per-Sale (PPS) or Pay-per-Lead (PPL). Customers are sent to the advertiser’s website via an affiliate link. If they purchase the product, the affiliate earns the commission. The commission rate is usually 5-30%. The drawback of this kind of program is that it excludes people without money to buy products. However, there is also another type of referral program which is suitable for everybody – Pay-Per-Click (PPC).

B: How to renegotiating referral commissions

The simplest way to renegotiate referral commissions is to contact an affiliate program manager directly. A good place to start is the Affiliate Resource Center page of the website of your company. Some companies have an internal messaging system that allows you to interact with some employees without revealing your identity. You can use this feature to ask questions about some issues or problems that you may encounter as an affiliate marketer promoting their products.

If you can not find any contact information, try looking for other companies affiliated with your affiliate network or your merchant account provider. It is good if you already have some experience in affiliate marketing or at least some contacts on forums or messages boards related to this field. Another option is to use some associations that represent affiliates. For example, there are two major trade associations in the US – the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and Direct Marketing Association (DMA). There are also numerous forums that specialize in affiliate marketing, such as Affiliate Marketing Forums, Google Affiliate Network Forum, Commission Junction Forum etc. Find out whether there are any offers for new affiliates at these forums. If you do not have any experience in affiliate marketing, you can advertise yourself as a new affiliate on these forums or send messages to larger affiliates who have already joined the forum. Sending messages to larger affiliates is preferable because these people have more experience in affiliate marketing and often have more time to answer your questions.
