In this section, you will outline the basic idea for your article. This should be very brief and only a few sentences long. Begin by stating your article’s topic and a general thesis statement. Outlining a thesis statement is a good way to get started because it forces you to decide what your main points will be and in what order you will present them.

Thesis: Dogs are better than cats because they are kinder than cats and give unconditional love that no other animal can give.

In the body of the article, you will present your main points and support them with evidence and examples. The body should include three or four paragraphs, each beginning with a topic sentence and each making a main point supported by specific details and examples. Each paragraph should be numbered, and after the conclusion of your article, list your article’s main points again in the same order in which they appear in the body. This will help readers who skim your article to see quickly that you actually made it easy for them to follow your argument.

Cats may purr when they are happy but they do not rub against their owners like dogs do. Cats don’t even like to be petted by their owners like dogs do. Cats may curl up on laps but they don’t lick their owners’ faces or jump up on their owners when they get home from work like dogs do. Cats also don’t pull their owners out of bed in the morning to go outside to play like dogs do. Even though some cats are very intelligent, I have had many times where my dog has done something that shows that he is smarter than my cat. Although some people argue that cats are cleaner than dogs, I think that is just not true. My dog sleeps on his dog bed at night while my cat sleeps on the floor. My cat does not even have a litter box! My dog always makes sure to cover his waste when he goes outside but my cat does not even do that! I also think that dogs are more loyal than cats are. Dogs are not afraid to show their feelings while cats are more reserved about showing their feelings towards their owners. I hope this article taught you why I love my dog better than my cat!
