I: Introduction (1 paragraph)

An article about “How to work from home” is one of my favorite topics in writing. I am firmly convinced that in order to be productive when working at home, you must have a solid plan in place. Without one, you will constantly feel like there is so much to do and you will never get anything done. Without structure, the day will slip away until it is too late to accomplish what you need to do.

I: Body (4 paragraphs)

A: Proper ways to make to-do lists

To-do lists are imperative when working from home. They help you break down the important tasks into manageable parts. When you create your list for a day, you should set a time limit for yourself for each task. For example, if you have a large research project due in a week, but you know that it will take a lot of time and effort, then you may want to work on it every day for an hour or two. Set aside a specific amount of time for this task and stick to it. If you get distracted, allow yourself a small break for five minutes to get something to drink or eat, but then go back to work. You can also stick your to-do list on the refrigerator or on the wall by your desk so that you can constantly see it and be reminded of what you need to do.

B: Proper places to work from

The environment in which you work can have a big effect on how much work you get done. It is best to have a place that is separate from your living quarters so that you can focus on your work without being distracted by anything else. If you have a home office, try setting up a routine so that you know exactly where to find everything when you need it. This will help cut down on the amount of time you spend looking for things since you should be able to find everything quickly and easily.

B: Proper ways to avoid procrastination

Everyone procrastinates sometimes and it can be easy to get discouraged when this happens to you. If you do not like what you are working on, try forcing yourself to complete one part of it before moving over to something else. Once you finish the first part, the second part will seem easier and less daunting. Another way to beat procrastination is by constantly doing something productive during the day no matter how small it may be. For example, if your boss gives you a project that takes four hours, instead of doing the entire thing in one sitting, divide it up into four one-hour sessions and do one in the morning and one in the afternoon and so forth until the entire project is complete. You will be surprised at how much work you can actually get done when you start looking for ways to sneak in little bits of work here and there throughout your day.

C: Proper ways to stay focused while working from home

You may find yourself constantly surfing the net or watching TV when trying to work from home. This is not effective and it gets in the way of getting your actual work done. Try setting aside specific times for doing these things so that they do not interfere with your actual work time when it comes time to focus and get things done. You could set aside an hour each day after dinner or an hour before going to bed as dedicated time for surfing and watching TV. Do not watch excessive amounts of TV because it makes it hard to fall asleep at night and can cause health problems as well as making you fat.

I: Conclusion (1 paragraph)

There are many different techniques that can help make working from home more productive and efficient. Use some or all of them as needed to keep yourself on track and ensure that you always meet your deadlines for assignments and projects.
