Paragraph 3: Exercise

In an article titled “In Defense of Idleness” by Tom Hodgkinson, he claims that being idle is one of the most important things we can do. In order to be able to sit back and let your mind wander, you must have plenty of time for recreation where you don’t have to think about anything in particular. A key component in this process is exercise. He claims that being able to play sports, walk your dog, ride bikes, etc., all help in a variety of ways.

He says that when you exercise you gain a feeling of accomplishment, a feeling that you have done something good for yourself. You get to be outside and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, smell the fresh air, watch children play. You also get to challenge yourself physically and get stronger, mentally sharper, and healthier.

He continues with the implications of not exercising; citing studies that show that people who exercise are more likely to be successful in their careers. He cites reports that people who exercise are happier and more successful than people who aren’t. These factors lead to people getting more out of life.

Paragraph 4: Impact of diet

Another factor is diet. People who eat healthy diets are generally healthier than people who eat poorly. The food they eat gives them more energy than junk food, which will make it easier for them to enjoy leisure activities. They will generally be happier because they aren’t always hungry or tired. If one has energy, they will tend to enjoy life more. It will also give them more endurance for physical activities like sports, walking the dog, etc.

An article on WebMD says that eating well can increase your lifespan by thirty years. This is because it lowers cholesterol levels, reduces blood pressure, helps you control your weight, improves your bone health, reduces stress on your heart and blood vessels, gives you more energy, increases your memory function, protects you from cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, kidney disease, depression, arthritis, diverticulitis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, gum disease, macular degeneration…etc.

Paragraph 5: Conclusion

Working from home can be very beneficial for many reasons. However it is important to remember that there are also negatives associated with this lifestyle. It isn’t all fun and games; it takes quite a bit of effort to maintain the lifestyle that has become commonplace in today’s society. Everything in moderation works best here.
