I: Introduction

A: How to work from home productively

I have worked from home for the past three years. I have always been extremely productive but I have recently found ways to be even more productive without sacrificing the time I spend with my son.

A: Two time and task tracking apps

I have recently started using two applications on my phone to help me stay organized. The first is called Toggl. It takes a little while to figure out how to use it, but once you do, it is very easy to keep track of your time spent working. You can also add tags. My tags are “work” and “personal” so I can use the application to track non-billable and billable hours. The second app is called Focus List and it allows me to set timers for any task that I need to focus on. I love this app because it allows me to concentrate on one task at a time and it helps me to be more productive.

II: Body

A: Two time and task tracking apps (cont.)

I am able to use these applications to keep track of both my billable and non-billable hours. My husband and I work together as freelancers and we both agree that we make more money when we work from home because we do not have to pay for gas and wear and tear on our cars and we do not miss out on precious time spent with our son.

B: Working from home and combining it with parenting duties

I agree that working from home can be overwhelming if you don’t plan ahead or if you do not have a routine in place. In order for me to be a successful freelancer, I have a schedule in place so that I know exactly when I will work during the day and when I will spend time with my son. Before he goes to bed, I spend time playing games with him so that I can relax after a long day at work. We also go on walks in the morning before he has breakfast or gets ready for school. When he returns from school in the afternoon, I help him with his homework and then we play games for a few hours before he goes to bed. If I was not able to work for myself, I would feel very guilty about not being able to spend time with my son. He is only five years old and I want to make sure that I can be there for him as much as possible while he is still young.
