I: Introduction

A: You’ve probably heard that over 90% of people in the world work in an office environment, and that includes most people in the United States. Although it is still possible to work in an office setting in this day and age, in order to be considered “productive” in modern society, it is necessary to be able to work from home. Unfortunately, when working from home, you are not provided with any natural distractions that would otherwise keep you from completing your workload. This article will discuss various strategies that you can implement in order to stay on task while working from your home office.

II: Body

A: Sleep research

While there may still be some debate regarding the amount of sleep you need in order to function optimally, there is no doubt that sleep deprivation has a negative impact on your ability to concentrate and complete tasks. A study performed by the University of California found that subjects who were deprived of sleep for three days exhibited signs of mental deterioration similar to those observed in heavy drinkers or drug addicts. Some of the subjects even began hallucinating hours into the experiment, which lasted for five days total. While this study was performed with extreme conditions, it does demonstrate how important it is to get enough sleep every night.

III: Conclusion

With the introduction of the Internet, there may be no more excuses for not working from home. With all of the available resources online, almost any task can be completed without ever leaving your house. However, if you do decide to attempt working from home, it is important to avoid working too many hours in one sitting. It is also critical that you schedule breaks during your work day. It might sound like common sense to take breaks while working, but studies have shown that 60% of workers never take a break while at work, which often leads to exhaustion and decreased productivity. By following these steps, you should find that working from home can lead to greater productivity than working in an office setting, especially if you are trying to complete an assignment on a tight deadline.
