I: Introduction

Shall we work from home, or travel around the world? It is a question that most people have to answer themselves sooner or later in their lives. There are many arguments for each option. In this article I will try to describe my experiences with working from home and travelling, and the conclusions they led me to.

II: Body

I have been working from home for over a year now, and it is a great experience. Before I started working from home I was an ordinary employee in a routine job, but there were a few things that really bothered me. The most crucial of these was the fact that most of my time was spent at work, and when I finally got home I was mentally exhausted. This made me realise that I could not live like that forever.

In order to solve this problem I decided to quit my job and start working from home. This seemed to be quite a drastic solution, but after a while I realised that it was a great idea. At first I was a little nervous about how well it would work, but after a month or so I had already adjusted to being a freelancer, and enjoyed every day of it.

While working from home you have a lot more freedom than when you are working as an employee. You can choose simply to not do any work if you do not feel like it. If you suddenly have something important to attend to, or if you want to meet friends or family, then there is no need to feel guilty about it. Of course you will still have deadlines to meet, but these tend to be much more flexible than those set by your boss. You can also choose to work whenever you want to, as long as your job gets done.

The greatest advantage of working from home is, however, the fact that you can combine your work with a lot of other activities. When I worked as an employee I rarely went out for a meal because I was too tired after work. Sometimes I would even stay at home on weekends because I was tired from the week's work. This affected my social life greatly. When I started working from home this changed dramatically. I often go out for drinks with friends on weekend nights, and sometimes even spend the entire weekend away from home if I have some major tasks to complete.

My decision to travel around the world instead of working from home was made about six months after starting my new job. I realised that I had become too comfortable and lazy and was not achieving anything valuable in my life any more. Although I was earning enough money to support myself comfortably, there were still many places in the world left unexplored, and many interesting people who had never heard about me. Therefore, one day I packed all my belongings into my car and started travelling across Europe, meeting new people and learning about different cultures along the way. Although this has been a very exciting experience for me, it has also caused some scary moments, such as when my car broke down in the middle of nowhere and I had no money left to fix it (I ended up spending weeks living off other people's food). If you intend to live like this you should make sure that you have enough money saved up first, otherwise you might end up starving! Despite these scary moments, however, travelling has been an amazing experience for me, and I would recommend it to everyone who has enough money saved up first!

III: Conclusion

After making all these experiences I find it hard to say that one option is better than the other. Working from home is great if you have people around you who support you, but travelling is also very enjoyable if you have enough money saved up for emergencies. As I have shown above there are advantages and disadvantages of both options. Therefore, the only thing that is important is deciding what you want out of your life, and trying to achieve your goals as best as possible!
