It can be difficult to determine where transitions are necessary, but there are some general rules that can be followed. Transitions are typically needed when moving from one main topic to another or one subtopic to another. They are also needed after stating an example or providing an explanation. When determining where transitions are needed, one should always keep in mind the purpose of the article or speech they are creating. If it is a persuasive article, transitions are likely needed between almost every main idea or subtopic. On the other hand, if it is an informative article, there may only be transitions between some main ideas or subtopics.
