A: Creative page layout demo

This section should demonstrate how much you can do with your page layout skills. You may include the following in your article:

1) A cool design that you created for this book.

2) An illustration or graphic that is appropriate for this book.

3) An advertisement for a product in the book or anything else related to the book.

4) A crossword puzzle or other puzzle related to the book. More information on creating puzzles in the appendix.

5) Any other material related to the book that you think would be appropriate. For example, if your book was about cell phones, you could have phone numbers from the various characters in the book. Or you could have a list of jokes that are in the book. Or you could have a list of words that are mentioned in the book and their definitions. Anything related to the book you can think of could be included in this section.

B: Program code sample 1

This section should demonstrate the coding language you chose to use for this book, including any special effects or animations. It can be something simple like a calculator, or it could be a complicated video game like Space Invaders. It will need to be something that is not possible to do with HTML alone. More information on creating games and animations is provided in the appendix. If the special effect or animation is very complicated and spans several screens, consider making a Flash animation instead of just having those pages as part of your outline. Then those pages just need to be copied into your actual book at those points and you can leave them as placeholders instead of pages that need to be completed. If you want to do that, read more about Flash on Adobe's website at www.adobe.com .

C: Program code sample 2

This section should demonstrate how to use the programming language for something other than a simple calculator or game, such as an Internet search engine, an email program or a chat room, etc.. This section should also include examples and discussions of things like variable types, data types, loops, user input, etc., if appropriate for this programming language. Again, if the program is complicated and spans several screens, consider making a Flash animation instead of just having those pages as part of your outline. Then those pages just need to be copied into your actual book at those points and you can leave them as placeholders instead of pages that need to be completed. If you want to do that, read more about Flash on Adobe's website at www.adobe.com .
